The huge iron structure build in Paris between 1887 and 1889 as a symbol of the human technological progress, was originally the entrance gate for the L'Exposition Universelle, a World Exhibition held in Paris in 1989. It was meant to stand only for 20 years and it was designed in a way that it could have been easily dismantled.
Its constructor, Gustave Eiffel built it on four strong pillars standing 80 meters apart, using 18 thousands iron elements connected with 3,5 million of rivets.
The Eiffel Tower with its height of 300 meters had been for a long time the highest structure in the world. Hated at the beginning, described by many as ugly, inhuman and barbaric, with the flow of time the Eiffel Tower became the symbol of Paris.
The replica of the Eiffel Tower built in a 1:2 scale (156 meters high), stands at the Paris Casino in Las Vegas, USA.
Photographer's Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower rises above Paris. Its view changes depending on the time of the day, light, weather. Its brown-grey paint, lighter at the base, darker at its higher levels in natural way corresponds with nature. At night, every hour the Eiffel tower is lit for 5 minutes by thousands of flashlights – a real feast for a photographer.
